Dundee East Railway Station

Dundee East Railway Station - Ref: WC1021

Dundee East Station belonged to the Dundee and Arbroath Joint Railway and served transport for the north. It was located at Dock Street East in Dundee. According to the Dundee Directory, the stationmaster in 1891-92 was A. T. Hunter.

The goods superintendent at the station was James McFarlane, and the facilities included a bookstall belonging to John Menzies and Co., listed in the Dundee Directory as publishers, with other stalls at Dundee West and Taybridge stations.

The company's office was at No. 65 Commercial Street, managed by Edward Gilbert. Stops in 1886 were: West Ferry, Broughty Ferry, Ferry Pier, Monifieth, Barry, Carnoustie, East Haven, Elliot Junction, and Arbroath. The 8.45 am arrived at 9.35 am.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
