Morgan Academy, Dundee - Ref: WC1810
Morgan Academy is situated on a triangular site between Forfar Road and Pitkerro Road. Its founder, John Morgan, envisioned a "hospital" for the education of the sons of tradesman and the working class.The School Board acquired Morgan Hospital in 1889 and renamed it Morgan Academy.
An extension, built in the same style, was added to the school in 1992. On March 21st 2001, Morgan Academy suffered a devastating fire.
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
