Perth Road, Dundee

Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0529

This elegant building is sited on the north side of Dundee's Perth Road and is part of Dundee University in the present day. The road to the right (and east), Hawkhill Place, is no longer extant.

The taller building is called Hermonhill, the smaller houses to the left Hermonhill Terrace. The terrace was built in c.1891, Hermonhill itself (listed in the Dundee Directory as Nos. 21-27 Perth Road) in c.1887.

Hermonhill House stood slightly back from the Perth Road. George H. Gibb, the town postmaster, lived there for several years. Residents of Hermonhill included solicitors, merchants and professionals.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
