Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0535

This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's Perth Road, leading away to the west (to Sinderins and ultimately Ninewells).

George Falconer, the confectioner, was at No. 185. He lived at No. 1 Ritchie's Lane. Alexander C. Stewart, 'cash grocer and spirit merchant', was at No. 187. He lived at No. 18 Union Place.

The three-storey block is known as Manor Place. No. 189 Perth Road was James Phin, 'grocery, spice and wine merchant'. He lived at No. 2 Ritchie's Lane. The hosiery shop at (? No. 215) was possibly William Polson's Shetland Hosiery.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
