Royal visit decorations, Royal Exchange, Dundee - Ref: WC1661

Photograph shows Royal Exchange decorated for the Royal Visit. Barriers erected in front of the building with a crowd of people at the side. The visit commemorated the unveiling of the statue of Queen Victoria in Albert Square and opening of Royal Victoria Hospital.

Discussion held in the Royal Exchange to discuss whether to close the Factories and mills and whether to pay for the 3 hours time off. Some agreed to both suggestions, others with just the first suggestion and others that no time off be allowed. Left to individual companies to decide.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923
