Shore Terrace, Dundee - Ref: WC0600

This photograph shows Dundee's Shore Terrace, with the east end of the Greenmarket to the left of the Crown Hotel and leading eastwards into Dock Street.

The proprietor of the Hotel in 1894 was Mrs E. Steel The tobacconists at No. 3 were Thomson and Fraser, there being no mention of stationers in the Dundee Directory for 1893-94. Dalgairns & Co., wine merchants are listed at No. 4.

At No. 5 were the offices of the Dundee, Perth and London Shipping Co., known locally today as D. P. and L. James W. Kidd, who resided at Taychreggan in Broughty Ferry (which is a hotel today), was the manager.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
