High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0251

At the left-hand side of this photograph is the north end of Castle Street, which led down to Dundee's dock area.

The National Boot Depot at No. 3 High Street is Stead and Simpson, while Smith Brothers became known locally as The Globe.

Beyond Tindal's Wynd, Henry Adams the glover, William Hutchen the tailor, and James Ramsay, jewellers, occupied Nos. 5-8 High Street.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
