Mr Lamb and gentleman, Howff, Dundee - Ref: WC3483

Alexander Crawford Lamb was a native of Dundee born on 21st February 1843 and founder of Lamb's Temperance Hotel, Reform Street. He was educated at Dundee High School. In 1878 Mr Lamb was elected a member of the Society of Antiquaries. Mr Lamb is the gentleman on the right of the picture.

He began collecting documents in relation to the history of Dundee and over 20 years he acquired a marvellous collection, pictorial, typographical and industrial illustrating Dundee's history this collection is now housed in the Local History Centre of Dundee Central Library.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
