Active Women Sessions

Active Women Sessions

Come along to our Active Women session at Lochee Swimming & Leisure Centre on Tuesday's 1.00pm – 3.00pm during school term. It's a great way to socialise and meet new people in a comfortable and welcoming setting.

Our facilities are open at this time for Women only and female staff operate in designated areas such as: the swimming pool, gym and the changing area. If ladies require a female only session for modesty reasons this is definitely suitable. Male staff work within the building at this time, however, will not be in designated areas.

Our recently modernised community facility offers the opportunity to improve your confidence and mental wellbeing through exercise. Older people can help prevent social isolation by having fun taking part in different activities that can make themselves feel good while improving their physical health.

Regular swimming can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, such as Heart Disease, Type 2 Diabetes and Stroke. It can also boost your mood and keep your weight under control. Swimming is a lifelong skill that could save a life. If you can't swim, it's never too late to learn. Come along and be an Active Women.

We would like you to be involved in what we offer during our Active Women session. Let us know if there is anything you would like to see happen at your centre.

If you would like some advice before attending or you would like to speak to someone in person before coming along here are some contact details for you:

Before Using the Swimming Pool

  • A swimming costume is all you need. Make sure your swimwear is comfortable and fits well.
  • Women with modesty requirements can wear Burkinis or leggings & a close-fitting, long-sleeved top. These should be made with Lycra and not cotton (cotton clothing becomes heavy when wet and will impede your swimming ability). Fitness clothing is widely available and suitable (swim wear must also be worn).
  • Please shower before using the pool.
  • Wearing a pair of goggles can help you to see where you're going under water. We have a variety of swim accessories, such as goggles available to buy at the Centre.
  • For most people, swimming is a safe and effective form of exercise. If you're worried about an existing health condition, see your GP before you start swimming.
  • We would advise not to eat anything heavy approximately 1 hour before exercise.
  • A bottle of water would be advisable to ensure you stay hydrated.Water fountains are available on site. There is also a drinks machine on site where you can purchase pre bottled water.

Before Attending the Gym

  • A T-shirt and Joggers/Leggings/Shorts with Trainers is the typical dress code. A comfortable pair of light weight trousers (not baggy) and a light weight top with walking shoes would also be suitable. In the interests of hygiene please ensure footwear is clean for gym use.
  • Please clean the equipment after use. Disinfectant spray and paper towels are available for customers to wipe down the equipment after use. Some customers also like to bring in a small towel to help them keep fresh when working out.
  • A bottle of water would be advisable to ensure you can stay hydrated during exercise. Water fountains are available on site. There is also a drinks machine on site where you can purchase pre bottled water.
