Run Talk Run
Olympia | Free.
Run Talk Run exists to make both running and mental health support less intimidating and more accessible.
A friendly, free and supportive group, Run Talk Run Dundee is a safe and open space to talk how you are doing: the good times, the not so good time and everything in between. Whilst we chat, we run walk or jog 5km. We have two runs a week in Dundee, Mondays and Wednesdays. On Monday's we generally go along the waterfront, nice and flat! We don't care about speed or pace and nobody is left behind...whether your a seasoned ultra marathon runner or coming along for your first bit of exercise in a while, all are welcomed and encouraged. If we walk some or all that is fine!
We meet at the cafe in the Olympia Leisure Centre, which is up the stairs to the right of reception. There are lockers (£1 refundable), changing rooms and loos available. If you are coming by car, parking is free in the East Whale Lane car park after 6pm, or is free for 2 hours at Gallagher Retail Park (remember to get a ticket!)
Before every run there is a window of time to meet the other runners and say hello to the run leader. Its alright if you're a little anxious and quiet - we all get it at Run Talk Run. The leader then explains the logistics of the route reminding the group that the run is gentle and that there is no pressure to keep up and that at the forefront of our runs is support, this really is a safe space to talk about how you're doing.
If you are thinking about coming along for the first time but are worried about the running, or the conversations, please don't be. Our run really is gentle, if we walk for a bit or all then that's fine (and it's easier to blether that way too!). And as much as conversations around mental health are encouraged and expected, there is no pressure to talk about anything you don't want to (we get it, talking about our mental health can be super scary!) - if you want to come along and just listen to the other runners, you will be welcomed all the same. To sign up for the run, download the my crew app on your mobile phone, make a profile and select Dundee as your city - it's simple to do but if you need any support or don't have a smart phone get in touch with the run leader and we'll figure something out. If you have any questions at all, drop the run leader Ali a message on Instagram, an email on firstname.lastname@example.org or contact via the website www.runtalkrun.com.
