Caird Hall  |
Mendelssohn - Overture: The Hebrides ("Fingal's Cave")
Brahms - Double Concerto in A Minor
Tchaikovsky - Symphony No.5 in E Minor

Robert Dick - Conductor
Maya Iwabuchi - Violin
Matthias Feile - Cello

This promises to be a great start to DSO's 2019/20 season, as they welcome Maya Iwabuchi, leader of the RSNO, and Matthias Feile back to perform the glorious Brahms Double Concerto, for violin and cello. it is rightly one of the great concertos written in the romantic period. A treat for all.

If that wasn't enough the evening starts with Mendelssohn's famous evocation of Fingal's cave, written after a trip to Scotland in 1829. We wrote to his sister, Fanny, of this trip 'how extraordinarily the Hebrides affected me'. Lastly, but by no means least, the concert concludes with the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky.

he may have had doubts about his own abilities, but he truly was a master of melody and orchestration; able to imbue music with deep emotion that still shines through loud and clear today.
