Dundee’s Santa Dash is back for 2021

Leisure & Culture Dundee have announced that Dundee’s Santa Dash is back for 2021. The event will take place on Sunday 5 December, 2021 with all profits going to Maggie’s - Everyone’s home of cancer care. To encourage even more Santas to take part, organisers have introduced earlybird offer, with 20% off entry until 7 November. The easy to sign up dash promises to be a fantastic, fun day out for all the family. The event is sponsored by Nissen Christmas Trees, one of the UK’s larger independent Christmas tree growers.

The closed road event will start and finish in front of Dundee’s City Square, following a route through the City Centre. The dash is a 2km lap and perfect for everyone to get involved in. It can either be done once or twice if participants wish to complete a 4km route. Santas will head along High Street to the Murraygate then cut along Panmure Street past the iconic landmark of The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum then pass DC Thomson HQ at Meadowside. They will then go up and round West Bell Street before circling down and along Ward Road before heading towards Reform Street and the finishing in front of City Square.

Sherridan Samson, Business Development and Learning Manager at Leisure & Culture Dundee, said

“The earlier everyone signs up, the more we can make for Maggie’s. That’s why we’ve introduced a special 20% off earlybird offer for this year until 7 November. Sign ups are really easy via our website.”

“Christmas is a fantastic time of year and the sight of so many Santas in the city centre is sure to put everyone in the festive spirit after another difficult year. Whether running or walking we encourage everyone to get involved in such a worthwhile cause to support anyone with cancer and their families in Dundee and surrounding areas. It really is going to be a very special day."

Laura Boyd, Centre Fundraiser at Maggie’s Dundee said

“At Maggie’s we could not be more delighted to be the chosen charity for the Santa Dash and we are most grateful to Leisure & Culture Dundee and everyone who takes part in this fun and joyous event. It’s so important for us to raise the funds it takes to keep our cancer caring centre operating and its equally important for us to make sure that everyone in Dundee and Tayside knows that we are open for the emotional and practical care of people with cancer and their families and friends. Just come in to our beautiful centre at Ninewells, or give us a ring on 01382 632999.

Amanda Nissen who co-owns this year’s sponsors, Nissen Christmas Trees, with husband Anders said

“Nissen is delighted to be sponsoring the Santa Dash this year in Dundee! As a family run business local to Dundee, the Nissen family have been growing Christmas trees in the Sidlaws for over 40 years. We are especially glad to be sponsoring this event as Maggie’s is a really important charity in the city. Like many others, cancer has taken its toll on our family and Maggie’s continues to be a tremendous support to our communities.”

Once signed up, Santas can collect their suits from Central Library, Olympia, or Dundee Ice Arena from today (Please note that children aged 3-4 years will receive a Santa Hat rather than a suit and that we are unable to provide anything for those aged 0-2 years, however organisers encourage dress up for all ages).

Registration begins at 9.30am on the day with the event starting at 10.30am and Santas will receive medals upon completing the route. Leisure & Culture Dundee will also be handing out spot prizes on the day!
