Victoria Diamond Jubilee, Dundee

Victoria Diamond Jubilee decorations, Dundee - Ref: WC1691

Photograph from Alexander Wilson Photographic Collection. View of statue (which appears to be on a temporary plinth) outside the gates of Dundee High School. 2 boys standing at the side in uniform (may be telegram boys)

Approx 250 representatives of public bodies will be invited to attend the Thanksgiving Service in the Parish Church. The collection will be on behalf of the Convalescent home.

The Town Council sent an manuscript to the Queen with their loyal greetings and informing her of their plans to celebrate her Jubilee by arranging special functions for the poor of Dundee.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
