Mid Kirk Style, Dundee

Mid Kirk Style, Dundee - Ref: WC0383

This photograph shows the east end of Mid Kirk Style, Dundee, looking into the north end of Tally Street, which ran north to south and left to right from the Overgate to the Nethergate.

John C. Geddes, whose sign here seems to suggest that he was an auctioneer and valuateor, is listed in the Dundee Directory as a draper, with the address of 56 Overgate. The Overgate ran along one side of the buildings and Mid Kirk Style along the other.

The manager of the City Hotel (at No. 15 Tally Street) was John Cullerton. John Davidson, the wine and spirits dealer, is listed at No. 17, and the hairdressing room at No. 12 belonged at that time to William Carruthers.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
