High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0266

Castle Street led southwards to the dock area from Dundee High Street, seen here running from east to west, left to right.

The poster in the window of The Quality and Value Clothing Co. says that this is the last week of the closing down sale, prior to the demolition of the entire block to make way for the new Royal Bank of Scotland building.

The alley leading south to the west of Smith Brothers is Tindal's Wynd, predominantly a residential area, with William C. Scott, plumber, at No. 9 and Edward De Gernier, bootmaker, at No. 30.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
