Decorations at Nethergate, Dundee

Decorations on Royal Hotel, Nethergate, Dundee - Ref: WC1782

The Royal Hotel stands on the corner of the Nethergate and Union Street. In this photograph it has been decorated. Unfortunately, as the photograph is undated the reason for this is unknown.

The horse and cab seen in the photograph were probably waiting for a fare at the cab rank in front of the City Churches. Note the interesting early car behind them. The Royal Hotel has recently been converted into housing. Jeweller, Walker's, is situated in the ground corner shop.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
