Who's Who on the Leisure and Culture Dundee Board
Sinclair Aitken (Independent Trustee elected as Vice Chair by the Board)
Sinclair has been elected as Vice Chair of Leisure & Culture Dundee. He is a retired Company Director who is also a past Chair of Dundee Rep Theatre. Sinclair served on the Board of Dundee Leisure and is also current Board Member of Dundee City Developments Ltd. He has many years of business and management experience to bring to the Board. A former Citizen of the Year and Lord Dean of Guild, Sinclair is also a Deputy Lieutenant of the City. Sinclair is a member of the Finance Committee and the Health and Safety Management Group, and attends other Stakeholder Groups, as required.
Alice Bovill (Independent Trustee)
A former Citizen of the Year, Alice joins the Board with strong community connections, extensive experience of managing and supporting community projects, and involvement in fundraising. As founding member and Chair of St Mary's Community Facility, and Board Member of Dundee Partnership Management Group, Dundee North Law Centre and the Tenants' Information Service, Alice brings a valuable breadth of community experience and enthusiasm to Leisure & Culture Dundee, and chairs the Cultural Services Stakeholder Group.
Bob Duncan (Trustee appointed as Chair by Dundee City Council)
Bob is one of the founding trustees of Leisure & Culture Dundee and the Chair of our Board. He is Lord Provost of the City of Dundee and an elected member for the SNP within Dundee City Council, he served as Convener of Leisure, Arts and Communities until the formation of the new organisation and was also Chair of Dundee Leisure Trust. He continues with commitment and enthusiasm in his role of supporting and promoting leisure and cultural services within the City. Bob is a member of the Finance Committee.
Gillian Easson (Independent Trustee)
Gillian is Director of Creative Dundee, a platform which amplifies, connects and develops Dundee’s creative scene. Through its website, events and partnerships, Creative Dundee runs the popular Pecha Kucha Nights and also led the We Dundee project. They have been cited as an influential catalyst in the increase in the profile of Dundee and have played a role in the retention and attraction of talent. Gillian's background is building capacity in design, innovation and enterprise, within the creative and cultural sectors and she has also worked extensively internationally.
Brian Gordon (Trustee appointed by Dundee City Council)
Brian is a founding trustee of Leisure & Culture Dundee. He is an elected member for Labour within Dundee City Council, and has long been involved in the trade union and voluntary sectors, serving on and chairing many local, regional and national organisations. He was chairman of Dundee TUC, as well as being involved with many voluntary and community groups, and served for many years on the NHS as Chairperson of the independent review panel that investigated complaints from patients against Tayside Health Service. He is currently a bus driver in the City, employed by National Express. Brian serves on the Health and Safety Management Group.
Stewart Hunter (Trustee appointed by Dundee City Council)
Stewart is a founding trustee of the organisation. He is an elected member for the SNP within Dundee City Council and currently serves as Convener for Education. He served on the Board of Dundee Leisure, and as Chair of Dundee Leisure's Health and Safety Management Group - a role in which he continues for Leisure & Culture Dundee.
Richard McCready (Trustee appointed by Dundee City Council)
Richard is a Scottish Labour & Co-operative Party member of Dundee City Council. He is a former chair of Dundee Leisure and is a director or trustee of a number of cultural and sporting organisations. Richard has worked in Further and Higher education, in the Scottish Parliament and the House of Commons and as chief officer of a human rights charity. He has also worked in the co-operative sector and currently serves on the Northern Committee of Scotmid Co-operative Society. Richard has a doctorate on the history of Dundee and has published articles on the history of the city. Richard is committed to promoting leisure and culture in the city.
Laura Mason (appointed November 2013)
Laura is Managing Director of Quest (Scotland) Ltd, a training company established in 2001. Quest delivers apprenticeship training, qualifications, workshops and SVQs and is based in Dundee. She previously worked in Dundee City Council Organisational Development Section and Cleansing. Laura has served on the Stakeholder group for Culture for since 2011. Laura is a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute and Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Laura is a member of the Cultural Services Stakeholder Group.
Ian Mathers (appointed November 2013)
Ian is a retired bank executive with over 30 years' experience in senior management roles reporting to divisional board level within a UK plc. Currently a non executive director of Air Service Training (Engineering) Ltd, Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Finance Committee Perth College University of the Highlands & Islands, a Member of the Management Committee Abertay Housing Association Ltd, Dundee and a Trustee of Dundee Disabled Children's Association. A member and past president of the Rotary Club of Dundee, Ian has a strong engagement with and commitment to the Dundee community. He serves as a member of the Finance Committee.
Stewart Murdoch (Trustee appointed as Managing Director by Dundee City Council)
Stewart is a founding trustee of Leisure & Culture Dundee and its Managing Director. He is also a member of Dundee City Council's Senior Management Team in his capacity as Director, Leisure and Communities, with responsibility not only for the SCIO, but also for the Communities Division of the Chief Executive's Department. Stewart is on the Board of Dundee Rep and serves on the boards of several national organisations. Stewart chairs the Finance Committee.
Alan Rae (Independent Trustee)
Alan is currently a copyright consultant who has gained a wealth of experience during a 34-year career within Dundee College, as a lecturer, head of department, events manager, and involvement in the College's Business Development Department. In February this year, Alan was appointed to the post of non-executive director on the Executive Board of the Copyright Hub limited. He is an honorary member of Dundee Heritage Trust, a Friend of the Mary Slessor Foundation and a member of two of Dundee's Nine Trades. He has a strong engagement with leisure and cultural facilities in the City. Alan chairs the Sport and Leisure sub committee.
Craig Simpson (Independent Trustee)
Craig is currently the Commercial Director at Radio Tay and joined the board of leisure & culture in 2014. Prior to working at Tay with the Bauer Media Group Craig managed the commercial operation for BskyB in Scotland and the North of England and also has significant management experience in the commercial health & fitness industry. Craig also currently sits on the board for Cash for Kids and is involved in the steering group for Dundee Business Improvement District (BID). A keen sportsman & music lover Craig has a strong engagement with the leisure & cultural services within L&CD. Craig is a stakeholder on the Leisure & Sport sub-committee and also chairs the marketing sub-committee.
Marjory Stewart (Trustee appointed as Finance Director by Dundee City Council)
Marjory is a founding trustee of Leisure & Culture Dundee. She is Dundee City Council's Director of Corporate Services and, as such, is a member of its Senior Management Team. She serves as Finance Director for Leisure & Culture Dundee. She was a member of the Board of Dundee Leisure and acted as Finance Director for that organisation - a role she has continued for the SCIO.
