Leisure & Culture Dundee are holding a number of free events at libraries across the city to celebrate Book Week Scotland 2016 (21-27 November).

We will be hosting five author events in Libraries across the city including the visit of Psychologist and neuroscientist Professor Ian Robertson whose latest work looks at modern stress on Monday 21 November and crime author, TF Muir on Thursday November 24, both at Central Library.

Book Week Scotland is a national celebration of books and reading that brings hundreds of free events to a variety of venues across the country. The theme for Book Week Scotland 2016 is discovery and throughout the week they will be celebrating how reading exposes us to a world of discovery, exploration and adventure.

The 2016 events programme is a literary box of delights, with something for people of all ages to enjoy. Book lovers can also get involved by voting for their favourite Scottish book to screen adaptation, challenge a friend to take part in the #ReadingDare or finding their perfect book match with the Book Generator; a fun online quiz that will determine the ideal book for you and your friends and family.

Those who just want to spend the week reading will also be well catered for, with 150,000 free books being given away at libraries, bookshops and other venues throughout the week.

Shona Donaldson, Adult Libraries & Information Section Leader said

“We are delighted to be holding all these events, giving everyone in the community the opportunity to share their love of reading – we can’t wait for everyone to grab a good book and join us.”

“If you can’t make it along, remember that Book Week Scotland is the perfect chance to get signed up to your local library and bring some books home to enjoy by yourself or with your family.”

Initiated by the Scottish Government and supported, along with a Readers in Residence programme in libraries, by £200,000 from Creative Scotland, Book Week Scotland will be delivered by Scottish Book Trust.

Scottish Book Trust will work with a range of partners across the nation to deliver a packed programme of free events during Book Week Scotland 2016, bringing Scots of all ages and from all walks of life together to celebrate books and reading.

Book Week Scotland in libraries is funded by The Scottish Library and Information Council.
