Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0542

This photograph shows the north side of Dundee's Perth Road, leading westwards towards Sinderins, one of the city's most photographed and painted sites, and ultimately to Ninewells.

At the extreme right is the west wall of Ryehill United Presbyterian Church, listed at No. 79 Perth Road. No. 85 was David (later Mrs David) Buchan, baker. No.87 was Mrs James Boyd, without occupation. No. 93 was Miss Jane McCartney's babylinen shop.

No. 95 was Adam Hutchison, a stationer and newsagent (probably what we would call a paper shop today). David Balfour, 'wholesale and retail grocer and wine merchant' (Dundee Directory) specialised in teas, and offered a daily delivery service.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
