Perth Road, Dundee

Perth Road, Dundee - Ref: WC0530

This photograph focusses on the north west section of Dundee's Perth Road, with a large mill chimney visible in the distance (near the Hawkhill).

The church spire is that of St Peter's Free, which seated 1140 people. The graveyard in front (the trees can be seen in the photograph) is the last resting place of the prominent Dundee preacher, Rev. R. M. McCheyne.

Adam Hutchison was the confectioner and stationer at No. 95, John Paton the fishmonger at No. 99 and J. & W. Nicoll were the blacksmiths at No. 103 Perth Road. The newsagent further to the west has not been identified.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
