Nethergate, Dundee - Ref: WC0408
This photograph shows the south side of Dundee's Nethergate to the west of the junction with Union Street, most likely taken from the south end of Lindsay Street.
Alexander Mitchell had a tailor's shop at No. 100, and James Hamilton the boot merchant was at No. 98. The Central Cycle Depot is listed in the Dundee Directory for 1897-98 as Malcolm and Sons at No. 96.
Beyond them No. 94 housed the Coachman's Club (secretary R. Reid, treasurer William T. Reid), James Thomson, restaurateur (proprietor of the Cafe)
Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
