This photograph shows the show side of Dundee's Nethergate, at a point where the city's inner ring road now occupies the site between Meadowside St Paul's church and the ornate building (the New Rossleigh Cycle and Motor Co.'s showroom).

No. 128a Nethergate was the chemist's, Davidson and Gray. No. 130 housed Johnston & Co.' music warehouse. Listed in the Dundee Directory as 'pianoforte, organ and music saloons'. James Johnston, the owner, lived at Starrbank, Cupar, Fife.

No. 130a was Richard Morrison, dealer in antiques and art objects. The Dundee Directory lists him as an antiquarian at No. 130B! The head office of the Rossleigh's cycle and motor company were at York Buildings, Edinburgh.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
