Morgan Academy, Dundee

Morgan Academy, Dundee - Ref: WC1481

In this photograph Morgan Academy has a dark brooding aspect. It had been founded by returning nabob John Morgan. He envisioned a hospital for the education of working class sons. The School Board acquired the building in 1889.

On the 21st March, 2001, Morgan Academy suffered a devastating fire. Hopes are high that the frontage can be rebuild and a new school built behind it. Salvage work of the decorative stonework is currently underway. (2001)

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
