Mid Kirk Style, Dundee

Mid Kirk Style, Dundee - Ref: WC0382

Seen from South Lindsay Street, this photograph shows Mid Kirk Style running parallel with the Overgate to the east towards Tally Street, with the back of the City Churches visible to the South.

Dundee Central Library's Lamb Collection [Box 189(1)] contains a catalogue of the Dundee Exhibition of Industry which ran from December 1887 until January 1888, in which James B. Lawson, the wines and spirits merchant, took a full-page advertisement.

He is listed as the agent for John Begg's Royal Lochnagar distillery at Balmoral, Doran & Co., whiskey manufacturers of Belfast, and David Nicolson's Palace Brewery in Edinburgh.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
