"Louise" and "Guy Mannering" in Dundee Harbour - Ref: WC0858

The "Louise", a three masted barque has so far not been identified. She was possibly a wooden ship built in Quebec in 1863 and owned at the time of this photograph by H C Mathiesen of Oslo, with a gross tonnage of 949 and measuring 166.6 feet in length.

The "Guy Mannering" was iron single screw four masted steamer, built by A Leslie and Co., of Newcastle, in 1873. She had a gross tonnage of 2842 and measured 380 feet in length.

This photograph by Alexander Wilson, the manager of a Dundee jute calender, shows the vessel berthed for repairs, with Bell and Sime's timber yard at the left and Stephen's slipways behind.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
