Hilltown, Dundee

Hilltown, Dundee - Ref: WC0329

This photograph shows the junction of Hilltown with Victoria Road at its southern end, as well as Dudhope Street leading off to the west.

No. 2 Hilltown housed David H. Ferrier, the chemist, and No. 4 was occupied by W. S. Nicoll, grocer.

Above Dudhope Street were George Baxter jun.'s tailors, and at No. 10 James McDonald, stevedore (someone who loads and unloads cargo ships).

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
