Hilltown, Dundee

Hilltown, Dundee - Ref: WC0330

David H. Ferrier, the chemist, stands at the corner of the southern end of Hilltown and Victoria Road.

At No. 4, next door, is the grocery belonging to William Hogg, while No. 12 (on the north side of Dudhope Street) is Mrs E. Cornwall the pawnbroker, which matches the entries in the Dundee Directory for 1896.

Unseen to the left of this photograph is Wellgate, with steps leading down to a busy commercial street.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
