High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0249

From left to right, this photograph shows the junction of Commercial Street and Seagate, then the southern side of High Street, from Castle Street to Tindal's Wynd.

The Royal British Hotel (whose proprietor in 1891 was Joseph Rickard), stands on the High Street and at No. 4 Castle Street, above James Keillor and Son, listed as confectioners at No. 2 Castle Street.

The National Boot Company is listed in the Dundee Directory as Stead and Simpson, at No. 3 High Street.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
