High Street, Dundee

High Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0281

This photograph shows the junction of Dundee High Street with the south end of Reform Street, looking from the top of Crichton Street.

It was taken some time between June 1899 and June 1901, since the tailor George MacGilvary [sic] is listed at No. 19 High Street up to the earlier date and as McGillivray at No. 65 from the latter.

The identified shops in Reform Street include James Robertson the clothier at No. 23, D M Meldrum the India-rubber merchant at No. 13, J and J Peat the clothier at No. 9 and the Fruit Emporium at No. 3, listed in the Dundee Directory as Annie P. Robertson.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
