This photograph focuses on the north western end of Dundee High Street, with the Overgate junction at the extreme right.

No. 41 is Dixon's football and cricket store, listed in Dundee Directory as an ironmongers. The Piper O' Dundee carried regular reports of cricket matches, and portraits of the leading football players of the day.

The Dundee Temperance Society is listed in the Dundee Directory as No. 39, in the same building as Dundee Photographic Association and the home of Marjory Thomson, who had a bedding manufacturing business at 152 1/2 Nethergate.


Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
