Dock Street, Dundee

Dock Street, Dundee - Ref: WC0143

This photograph shows the western part of Dock Street at its junction with the southern end of Commercial Street, with Exchange Street leading off to the west beyond the building with the advertising hoardings.

No entry in the Dundee Directory has been found for the Commercial Hairdressing Saloon, with No. 2 Commercial Street given as Mrs Mary Ann Alison, outfitter.

The businesses on Dock Street were W & S Strong, spirit merchants, George D. Stalker, potato merchant, Joseph Nicholson, painter and decorator, and Miss Smart, tobacconist.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
