Dock Street and Yeaman Shore, Dundee

Dock Street and Yeaman Shore, Dundee - Ref: WC0134

This image shows the former weigh-house and pack-house. They were built in 1643 and were used much the same as a modern day Custom House, imports and exports passing under the inspection of the Dean of Guild and one of the Baillies of the town.

This area was demolished between 1885 and 1891 to make way for the Gillfillan Church and other buildings which formed the new Whitehall Crescent development.

Alexander Wilson who took this photograph, was a supervisor in a Dundee jute mill for over 20 years. He bequeathed much of his collection and £50, to cover the costs involved, to the Free Library Committee of Dundee in 1923.
