Reference and Information

The Reference and Information Centre, situated on the upper floor, provides a wide range of services. We provide traditional reference and information services and welcome enquiries in person, by telephone or by email. We also have a wide range of material available for loan. Study space is available, as is computer access. There are special sections on:
Loan Collection
Textbooks for Students
We loan textbooks on a wide range of subjects including psychology, social sciences, childcare, literature and history. Our aim is to provide a service responsive to the needs of local students, and we welcome requests and suggestions.
Education
We loan study guides, past papers and literature notes on all subjects covered by the Scottish Standard Grade, Intermediate and Higher curriculum. Also for loan are books on Higher Education and career choices.
Ordnance Survey Maps
The Landranger series for the whole of Britain and the Explorer series for Scotland are available for loan.
Reference Collection
We hold standard works such as encyclopaedias and dictionaries and an extensive collection of reference books on a wide range of subjects.
Historical Collection
We have a collection dating from the 18th Century with particular emphasis on books of Scottish interest. This includes bound journals.
Government Information
We hold legislation from both Westminster and the Scottish Parliament, records of the proceedings and government reports.
The Scottish Parliament has established a network of Partner Libraries throughout Scotland to help you access the latest publications, discover what MSPs have said in debates and find out how parliamentary decisions affect you.
Newspapers
Daily and Sunday newspapers, including some in other languages. All are kept for 1 year.

Scottish Parliament Information
Legislation, proceedings and general information on the Parliament, plus a wide range of reports on issues affecting Scotland.
Travel/Living and Working Abroad
Including accommodation guides, British holiday brochures and timetables.
Other facilities include:
- A wide range of leaflets on coming events, courses and classes, welfare benefits, health, consumer rights etc.
- Photocopiers - both colour and black and white
- Fax facilities
- 12 computer terminals with Microsoft Office and Internet Access
Ask Scotland is an online information service provided by Scotland's public libraries that lets you get real answers from real people. You can email a question using the online form or chat with a librarian using our instant messaging service, which is available from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.
