Dundee based skaters have come home with medals after competing in Belgrade at ‘Skate Helena’, an International Skating Union competition featuring skaters selected by federations from across the globe. Natasha McKay, who is the British Senior Ladies Champion won the Senior Ladies event, making it her second International Gold medal of the 2016-2017 Season. Karly Robertson, who is the British Senior Ladies Silver medallist also took the Bronze medal, her first International medal.
The skaters, who train at Dundee Ice Arena, also picked up valuable World Ranking points from their positions and have now achieved the qualification scores that make them eligible to be selected to compete at the World Figure Skating Championships. The International Skating Union sets a score that skaters must achieve to be able to participate at World Championships, and it is then down to the national governing body to select the skaters. They now wait to hear if they have been selected for the GB national team when it is announced National Ice Skating Association.
In the Junior Ladies event, Anastasia Vaipan-Law put down a personal best score, and finished the event in 5th place out of 26 Ladies.
Natasha is now travelling to the European Championships which are in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and the following week, Karly will travel to Reykjavik to compete in the Reykjavik International Games.
