……. and last but not least, if you love art and culture, then you might like to check in at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum – our award-winning Victorian, Gothic building, which is home to Dundee’s main collection spanning no less than 400 million years!! This gem, regarded as “Dundee’s best-loved building”, has been at the heart of art and culture in the City since 1867. Eight beautiful open gallery spaces house fascinating exhibitions of art, history and the environment, giving a fascinating insight into Dundee. Plus there’s a changing programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year. The McManus Shop stocks a wide range of historical reproductions, traditional toys, books and jewellery, and the welcoming Café with an outdoor terrace boasts an extensive menu.

If you happen to have any spare time between lectures and projects, then check out a couple of groups that may be of interest:

McManus 168 Supporters Group

Are you passionate about history, and would like to find out more about the history of Dundee - then this could be the group for you! Back in 1867 the Albert Institute (The McManus’ former name) was established in Dundee, as the City’s first civic museum and gallery and funded entirely through public subscription. It was initially thought that there were 168 subscribers – hence the McManus 168 Group name. However, further research by the group revealed that there were in fact many more….. Sign up to the McManus 168 Group and you will belong to a community who share an interest in the art, culture and history of Dundee. You’ll gain behind-the-scenes access to the museum collections, have exclusive invitations to Supporters’ events, be among the first guests to new exhibitions and receive 10% discount in the McManus Shop and Café.

Find out more about the research project here
and for details on joining the group email

McManus Youth Action Group

McManus Youth Action is the museum’s programme for young people aged 14 -19. The programme offers lots of fun and exciting opportunities for young people who are interested in developing new experiences in art, heritage and culture and who want to help shape and improve services for young people at The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery & Museum.

As a Youth Action member, you’ll be invited to come along to regular drop-in evenings at the museum, take part in discussion groups, creative workshops and projects - you’ll also be the first to find out about exhibition previews, events and receive 10% off in The McManus Shop and Café.
