The Dundee Musicians Award 2017-18, staged by Leisure and Culture Dundee, is now open for applications. The Award was established in 2008 to support the work of outstanding Dundee-based musicians by awarding grants towards the costs involved in creating new work in any genre, research and professional development with grants of up to £500 available.
This year, with the support of Dundee’s Place Partnership they are also offering the opportunity for Dundee based musicians to apply to a mentoring scheme. The programme will support two successful applicants to develop and progress their creative practice over 12 months. Tailored to the individual musician, the programme will include mentoring which may lead to the development of skills and training or creation of work. A bursary of £500 will be awarded to the successful applicants, plus fees for the mentor and there is a smaller budget available for additional support if required.
Past winners include Kevin Findlay, Barry Nisbet, Gleadhraich, Robbie Ward, Fat Goth, The Hazey Janes, The Mirror Trap, Scary People, Charlotte Brimner and many more.
Sinclair Aitken, Chair of Leisure & Culture Dundee said
"The Dundee Musician's Award has supported a wide range of projects since its inception in 2008. Dundee’s Place Partnership has increased funding to support mentoring and this exciting development will continue to enhance and raise the profile of the excellent and diverse music coming out of Dundee."
Annie Marrs, Project Co-ordinator for Dundee’s Place Partnership said
“We are trying to make Dundee’s music scene strong, sustainable and ambitious. By providing mentoring for young people, we are putting in place an important part of our strategy.”
